Book Pile - Dystopian December

Both books I read in December were of the dystopian teen fiction genre.

Divergent was sold to me as 'like the Hunger Games, but with guns and stuff' - famously as soon as you tell me a book is 'like the Hunger Games' I am all over it, and this was no exception. It is a bit rubbish (and not really at all like the Hunger Games, apart from the whole "faction" thing. And teenagers fighting. Its really not like the Hunger Games.) but it is perfect if you have epic jetlag. I read this book solely between the hours of 3 - 6am and I think if I was reading it in any other frame of mind I wouldn't have made it past the first chapter (see: The Uglies) but because my mind was all over the place my heart was all over the ridiculously thin love story (and hot on a train make out scenes). The film looks frightful, I can't wait.

I know I said I wouldn't be able to stomach reading The Ask and the Answer after I finished The Knife of Never Letting Go, (Lipsy sums that book up nicely over on her blog by the way) but here I am, reading it, crying myself to sleep every night.

In hindsight, December isn't the first month I have spent reading dystopian teen fiction and it probably won't be the last by any means.

  1. Well, I read both of these this year and I basically agree - Divergent is rubbish and TKONLG/TAATA (they're great titles but I am lazy) are excellent. Manchee! I'm writing about TKONLG for my blog at the moment. I found Monsters of Men disappointing though - let me know when you've read it (I have a copy if you fancy it?) and I will rant in your general direction. Well, not really rant but be dissatisfied in your general direction. Both of which are desirable of course. x
