    1. Its really beautiful. My boyfriends dad lives in Fort Collins which is a really lovely College town, the mountains are like a 30 minute drive away, there is a huge river to go swimming in, its so great. We're so lucky we have somewhere like that to go - its incredibly refreshing after they grey of London!

      Also - PONIES!

  2. "mum" shouldn't be capitalised. Unless your mum is actually called Mum that is.
First one is under exposed, second is too flat and needs contrast in the highlights, third is too magenta, fourth is too cyan, fifth is over exposed and badly needs the horse on the right cropping out.
Mind you, having looked at Flickr it seems under exposed is what you do best, which is funny seeing as all your shots are taken on auto/semi-auto.
May I recommend Basic Photography by Michael Langford. It's the standard A-level text.

Just because you have a camera doesn't mean you're a photographer.

    1. The camera I shoot on doesn't even have an auto/semi auto function, so this is just hilarious.

    2. 'Nancy' shame you didn't post a link to your blog so we can check out your photography. Which clearly would be amazing. Funny that.

    3. 'Nancy' this is a blog, not a photography portfolio therfore your comments are completely pointless and unnecessary. Also I would like to point out that not at any stage has Dianne suggested that she is a photographer. Everyone has a camera, everyone takes photo's. It's really quite sad that you have the time on your hands to make such malicious comments on somebodies blog.

    4. Are people no longer allowed to share images of their lives/adventures if they're not experts on how to frame and focus photos or something? Don't be such a petty idiot Nancy.

    5. Wow. What a bitch.
I had to comment despite not being particularly friendly with Dianne as Nancy's comment is way out of line and made me quite angry.

On a critical level her observations are entirely correct regarding exposure. As for colour, technically she is right, but she doesn't take into account the subjectivity of colour balancing and assumes the neutrality is a requirement (personally I don't mind the mag cast, it hightens the feeling of hot sun).
Before anyone jumps down my throat for saying the above, I do know what I am talking about as I have been a professional fine art photographic printer and retoucher for 13 years and am a qualified photography teacher.

As Anon says above, this isn't a portfolio review, it's just a blog. Nancy completely invalidates her criticism by the manner in which she delivered it. If she wanted to offer advice and criticism that is seriously then she should've posted with more compassion and humility.

That book she recommends is pretty good though.

    6. Nancy, your fifth sentence is under punctuated and badly needs a question mark.

May I recommend The Perfect (Pop-Up) Punctuation Book? It’s the standard primary school text.
      http://www.amazon.co.uk/Perfect-Pop-Up-Punctuation-Book/dp/0370328612

Just because you have a keyboard doesn’t mean you’re a writer or a critic.

If this is the best you can do you shouldn’t be writing words where other people can see them. If we allow this kind of sloppy prose on the internet without making needlessly spiteful comments about it we take a step towards a nightmare scenario where anyone can share their interests, hobbies, photos and writing without being professional photographers or journalists. Oh wait, sorry, that’s what is great about the internet.

I hate online spats, but really. Someone posts photos on a personal blog that you don’t think are perfect and you totally berate them for it. I sincerely hope you aren’t involved in teaching and spreading what seems to me to be a philosophy of “if you make something that isn’t absolutely technically perfect never show it to anyone.”

  3. Unless "Nancy" is David Bailey in disguise she should go take a running jump. And get a life. And FUCK OFF.

  4. Actually, my mum's name is Mum.

  5. I think your photography is beautiful. I am quite shocked that somebody would actually take the time out of their day to berate you for absolutely no reason whatsoever. That sort of negativity will get them nowhere.
Remember Nancy, lovely is as lovely does, and you are certainly not lovely!!!

  6. Nancy obviously has very little in her life to get her kicks from insulting people. What a douche.

  7. Your photos are beautiful, as always - it's a shame the internet is so full of people just out there to criticise.

The number of comments in reaction to Nancy's negativity are a testament to the fact that your posts are interesting and appreciated.

  8. I think these are really nice photographs!

  9. Ach, it's the internet. More people look at your blog, the more crap you're going to get. Look at Youtube, it's just 80% bile on the comments now.

Timothy, if you're not particularly friendly with Dianne, then why on earth are you even on her blog? Bit creepy.

  10. Nancy, you're a cock.

And Johnny, I'm not friends with Dianne either, but came across this blog as it is visible to the public. Calling Timothy a bit creepy is very silly indeed.
