Last Weekend I went to meet Steph and Janna in East Finchley for lunch. Upon alighting at East Finchley station, I discovered a magical thing.
It was a market of almost entirely French stalls. Mon dieu! I loaded up on fromage, tasted all of the pate and very almost bought that Triceratops as a housewarming gift for Matthew.
Thats the other great thing that happened this weekend - we got the flat we were hoping for!

Owls it Going

I was thinking about discontinuing these cheeky owlets in the store, they don't really fit in with the 'Hey I sell jewellery' vibe I have going on since the remodel and total re-conceptualisation of Dear Oh Deer into a fully fledged jewellery and accessory outlet.
However, after some thought, I have decided to keep them in.
The thought went something like this: 'Wow I've sold a few owls since making them cheap as chips. And I still have a bunch of them left... I might keep them in store so people can buy them so they do not go to waste'
I know, it was a pretty deep thought.
They are only £3 each and you can buy them HERE.
You can also get some of them over here in various print and apparel types.

Thanks to Paulie for leading me to discover the National Library of New Zealand's Papers Past service. After reading his blog post obviously the first thing I did was jump on there and look up any records from the Terra Nova's return to New Zealand in February 1913. Its interesting to read it as it was, at the time, to the public.
Well, its interesting if you are me, at least.
You can read it here.

Killing Time
..... In Sydney Airport.
We had 7 hours inbetween flights. I read Frankie magazine like 15 times, had a sleep, tried every single perfume in Duty Free, tried to read White Fang, then got bored so started taking photos of all the other people reading about the royal wedding in the papers.

Tiny Kitten
This is a tiny kitten called Murray who we stayed with on our last night in NZ. Together we sat up and watched the Wills & Kate film and then he fell asleep on my pillow. Tiniest of Murrays!

Dream House
Boyfriend and I have been looking for a flat for what seems an age, the good ones in the area we are looking have either been snaffled before we get to them or have had ridiculous demands attached to them [sign a 2 year contract? Do you have a reference for the rabbit?] and I'm getting a bit fed up with the never ending wave of disappointment.
I've been collecting images of how I'd like our future home to look since we decided to embark on our first home together, and to cheer myself up on this disappointing journey I thought I'd compile them into a kind of Dream House Board. Cosy, flags, maps, pictures on the wall, good workspace, lots of light, good storage. Clean and less cluttered than I tend to default to. More cohesive and organised.
We'll find something eventually, and when we do I'd like to nest in it as above. With a deer and a dog and a book. Obviously.
[all sources can be found via pintrest :: more pictures added to this board at a ridiculous rate!]

100 Years ago today Apsley Cherry-Garrard, Dr Wilson and Mr Bowers collected 5 Emperor Penguin eggs from Cape Crozier in Antarctica. They had been travelling since 27th June, in the Antarctic Winter. Famously, this involves zero sunlight and epic cold.
These are the men and this is the journey I admire more than anything. They made the journey in the dark. Conditions no one could have expected. Lost their tent. Slept in the snow and ice. Frozen sleeping bags. Found their tent. Frostbite blisters, which then froze. Frozen. Blisters. The liquid inside the blisters. Frozen solid. To collect some eggs, in the fine & noble name of Science.
Cherry wrote of day 100 years ago:
'I have heard tell of an English officer at the Dardanelles who was left, blinded, in No Man's Land between the English and Turkish trenches. Moving only at night, and having no sense to tell him which were his own trenches, he was fired at by Turk and English alike as he groped his ghastly way to and from them. Thus he spent days and nights until, one night, he crawled towards the English trenches, to be fired at as usual. "Oh God! what can I do!" some one heard him say, and he was brought in.
Such extremity of suffering cannot be measured: madness or death may give relief. But this I know: we on this journey were already beginning to think of death as a friend. As we groped our way back that night, sleepless, icy, and dog-tired in the dark and the wind and the drift, a crevasse seemed almost a friendly gift.
"Things must improve," said Bill next day, "I think we reached bed-rock last night." We hadn't, by a long way.'
........................ I'm sorry what was that you were saying about your day being rubbish?
Brothers I salute you.

New Feathers
I've been busy to the levels of epic this weekend with new listings hitting the shop like woah.
Here are a few of my faves -
New Forest Owl, Feather & Stone Necklace SOLD
Cape Evans, Single Feather Earring
Fog Bay, Feather Earrings.
As you can see I'm enjoying bringing stones into my work as much as feathers. The Fog Bays are my favourite yet. I battled for hours with myself over listing those darlings. I have more Feather & Stone necklaces to come and many more earrings, keep your eyes peeled throughout the week for these.

Trade!
One of my favourite things about selling on Etsy is, as I'm sure most other sellers would agree, the community spirit. One of my favourite sidelines of this is the epic act of TRADE.
Debbie Carlos' store has been one of my favourite all time Etsy stores for a while now. I can't remember exactly how I stumbled upon its shelves of wonderment but I fell in love as soon as I saw her most excellent Human Nature series and had decided I was going to snaffle myself a print for my future flat. Lo and behold, we got to talking online one day and BAM! Trade happens. I agonised for WEEKS* over which print to choose before settling on this owl [I mean obviously] - all I need now is the home to put him in!
She also sent over her superb GREAT LAND postcard set, as if I'm going to use these as postcards they are all mine! [tiny pencils!]
>> You should buy [me] one of her posters HERE
>> And read her shiny new blog HERE
You can see the necklace I made just for her over on her blog, I'll be listing more like this in the store this week so you can snarf your very own. I think its my favourite yet!
*potential exaggerations.
